Zeroł - Guild Lore & Background Story
Galactic Press - Galactic News Network Service (GNNS)
Anytime someone listens to discussions about Zero Zero Zero, or Zeroł as the name is often abbreviated, it becomes hard to separate fact from fiction.
Zero Zero Zero started as a group of protesters who originally called themselves Legion of Myth. Legion of Myth felt the Galactic Republic, notably the Jedi, were not taking the advances of the Sith Empire seriously enough. As millions died and planetary systems simply ceased to exist, the Galactic Republic continued to wage a conventional war. Legion of Myth was extremely vocal in its desire for the Republic to start fighting the war to win, not for some higher moral ground.
Attempting to take matters into their own hands, Legion of Myth started to supply arms to civil authorities, militias, and even resistance groups who also felt they were not receiving appropriate support from the government.
Although Legion of Myth grew in size daily, it was barely more than a support group of weapons smugglers. As people struggled to survive the war, and the underlying effects of the war - famine, lack of medicine, etc - Legion of Myth became the holo-ad of resistance support for the common folk.
The Sacking of Coruscant and the following Treaty of Coruscant demark the time when Legion of Myth changed from a vocal but passive band of smugglers into an active resistance organization. Legion of Myth had had enough of the aloof Jedi and a Republic too tied up in red tape to conduct an effective war. Using the battle cry "Zero Zero Zero" (the galactic coordinates of Coruscant) as their new standard, they began to strike back against the Sith Empire, wherever and whenever they could.
After some initial success, they completely dropped the Legion of Myth name and started identifying themselves solely with 'Zero Zero Zero' - lest anyone ever forget the tragedy of this war and of Coruscant.
Zeroł is not a secret society; but it is difficult to sift through the rumors, theories, and half-truths regarding their activity, their size, and their capability. Zeroł has taken (or has been given) the credit, or blame, for acts that are often hard to attribute to them. While denying (or being denied) participation in events where all the evidence seems to point them in glowing neon lights. There is always a shadow, or a break in the chain, that prevents definitive truth beyond a reasonable doubt regarding their activities.
Because of this, some even believe that the organization is nothing but bluster and talk. Phung-Bak, a human, originally from Coruscant, who lost both arms fighting the Sith sums it up like this. "The three-zee are a bunch of idiots that march about, shouting about how they protect the Republic and fight the Sith. But when the war comes to them, they hide and cower like children. They are like the human supremacy groups that rant and rave their racist poodoo, until confronted by the objects of their hatred. Then they run and scurry like bugs."
Others believe that Zero Zero Zero is a convenient scapegoat for the government, when the government perceives that public opinion will go against it. Corellian, Lane Exphile says, "The Zs are just like you and me, man. They just want to live their lives without the government lording over them. Man, they just want to protect their families - and yours. The government accuses them of all of this nonsense, but what has [the government] ever done for you? That's why it accuses three-zee of all of these trumped up accusations; they can't control them! Fight the power, man! Fight the power!"
More rural folk and militias, who don't have the luxury of the military being overtly available for support, seem to side with Zeroł and its tactics. Aoo'mut, a farmer from Aldaraan, cheers them on by saying, "I tell ya, if they can do good by the Republic, they do good by me. [The Sith] are the enemy. After what they did to the republic and the millions they killed, it's good we got someone to give them some payback. As long as they fighting [the Sith], I say more power to'em." He followed this by stating that the tactics used by Zeroł are the same he teaches his sons to use when hunting game. "You fight with whatever advantage you can get. You win at all costs; it's about survival."
So, what is it we believe we confidently know about Zero Zero Zero? The only thing we truly know is this: They are zealots in the service of the Republic. Or so they say. What our investigations allow us to presume, beyond a reasonable doubt are:
- Zeroł is an unsanctioned, para-military organization comprised of disenfranchised former military personnel, mercenaries, police, militia, civilians, and Force users who say that it is their aim to remove the Sith presence from the Galactic Republic, by any means necessary.
- Because of their refusal to respect any treaty, law, or government agency that comes in conflict with their objectives, Zeroł is not sanctioned - and is often condemned - by the government. Aside from the government, Zeroł's methods are often denounced by moral authorities, like the Jedi.
- Token attempts have been made to apprehend the leaders of the organization. Similarly, attempts have also been made to freeze Zeroł's assets and to break it apart; however, no concerted effort has ever been made and they remain an active organization today. In fact, as tensions and hostilities rise, the organization thrives.
- It thrives in part, if not wholly, because of the open secret that government officials often approach Zero Zero Zero with leaks, opportunities, and even mission objectives in which the regular military, and the government at large, cannot be seen to be involved.
- Zero Zero Zero; Zeroł; 3Z; 0ł; Zł; ZZZ; and 000 are all designations of this organization.
Lastly, I leave you with this. It was provided to me as I was finishing up the final edits of the article above. It is purportedly from Vas Den-Jas, the leader of Zeroł.
"We are Zero Zero Zero!
"Many speak ill of us; many more see us as a necessary evil. We are often openly regarded with distaste, with violent prejudice toward our methods. As is the case in any such discrimination, its roots lie in ignorance. Simply because we do not adhere to the commonly accepted, symmetrical warfare doctrines, or the dogmatic restrictiveness of the teachings of the Jedi, we are accused of being no more than terrorists, suspected of consorting with Sith Lords, and are treated as pariahs.
"Privately, we are often praised and lauded for our actions. The occasional few see us as a bastion of surgical strength and precision against the forces of the Sith Empire. They see that our actions serve only to protect our fellow Galactic Republic Citizens from the ravages of the Sith Empire and their allies. Any who care to think carefully on the matter recognize Zero Zero Zero as a bulwark, the last - or maybe, the first - line of defense between this fragile Republic and the encroaching hordes of the Sith.
"Is it true that some of our Brothers and Sisters reach into the teachings of the Dark Side? Yes, we openly admit that the occasional few do. Zero Zero Zero is often accused of all manner of vile acts because we dare investigate the vary nature of the Sith. Do our Force users understand the dangers and temptations of the Dark Side? Of course they do! And do not believe for a moment they are not scrutinized. Though such investigations bring temptations that have felled more than one of our members, on the whole our efforts have been a boon to everyone.
"Zero Zero Zero does not fear the Dark Side. Fearing the Dark Side feeds it. Feeding the Dark Side will allow it to consume you. We are wary of it, and we closely monitor those who seek such knowledge. However, we do not treat it as verboten, or anathema to victory. Our goal is to achieve victory for the Galactic Republic - by any means possible.
"Is it true that Zero Zero Zero employs asymmetrical warfare tactics? Yes, we openly admit this as well. Until we can find a way to remove the Sith from our galaxy completely, we must rely on proactive, asymmetrical measures to fight them. Additionally, we will reserve no sense of honor or quarter for the enemy or its sympathizers. All methods of subterfuge and deceit toward the Sith are welcome and authorized. We will fight from any position of advantage that we can find - honorable or no.
"This does not make us terrorists, as some would have it. If these measures are to be effective, they must be based on knowledge and accuracy - not random chaos. We do not use these methods to instill fear in the common citizen. We use them to be effective against the enemies of the Galactic Republic - the Sith Empire. We certainly do not condone or participate in suicide campaigns. We do not target civilians, casually perform random assassinations, or perform scorched earth tactics unless there is no other choice. However, we will not regret such actions if it serves the greater whole of the Republic, saves it from further bloodshed, and/or brings it closer to victory over the Sith Empire.
"Never again, lest we forget - Zero Zero Zero!"

Excerpt from Encyclopedia Galactica: Abridged Edition
Although Zero Zero Zero has identified a loose internal hierarchy, their members do not wear an identifying uniform, or any form of overt insignia of rank. Ironically, for quite some time Zeroł supporters have been tailoring, creating, or representing through graffiti art three different insignias that have been attributed to the resistance group. In fact, these insignias have been appearing more and more with supporters, sympathizers and fanatics of Zeroł alike. Many of these patches and pins look homemade; nothing like that which you'd find with any organization. However, quite a few look authentic and even share an exactness that could not be found randomly in such differing parts of the galaxy.
After considerable time denying any symbolism of rank and hierarchy, Zeroł has recently recanted. The organization now confirms that these are in fact their rank insignia. They stress that these insignias are used very rarely and for internal purposes only. How the information of the ranks, as well as the physical patches and pins got out to the public is unknown. Zeroł insists that it neither shares this type of internal information with the outside world nor distributes these out as tokens to people who assist them.
As always, no Zeroł declaration comes without detractors and alternate theories. Because of their original denials of any insignia, and no such insignia was ever viewed upon any confirmed Zeroł member until very recently, many believe that Zeroł is actually playing to the minds of populace by taking what people have attributed to Zeroł as their Zeroł's own.
The following three symbols are the ones found on supporters:
This first symbol is the one most often seen. Zeroł has stated that this symbol is wearable by all members regardless of species, profession, or ability with the Force. Color denotes rank, but Zeroł will not comment upon the actual hierarchy. Nor will they confirm if the ranks are limited to the colors and patterns presented here. The information below is to be considered 'best guess.'
Universal Rank - This rank reads Zł in Galactic Basic:

Initiate
Initiates are those people who seek to join Zero Zero Zero, but who have not completed the process of becoming a Zero Zero Zero member.
|

Brother / Sister
This is the insignia of those who have been fully accepted into the Zeroł Resistance Organization. Each member is considered a Brother or Sister in the cause to remove the Sith, and Sith supporters, from the Galactic Republic.
|

Elder
Elders are the various organizers and cell leaders of the Zeroł Resistance Organization. In military terms, they are the officers and commanders.
|

Scion
The Scion of Zeroł is Vas Den-Jas. More than a figurehead, Vas Den-Jas is the true leader of Zeroł. It is rumored that he actively and openly uses the Dark Side of the Force.
